heaven back
hebrews 11.14-16 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
ecclesiastes 12.1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,
Before the difficult days come,
And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them.â€
philippians 3.18-20 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
matthew 6.33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
psalm 90.12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

read thru the book of ecclesiastes (in one sitting if you can). watch solomon flail around trying to find meaning and fulfillment in everything else besides God who gave him his wisdom & riches & ability & honor. understand that this is how so many of us would look if we had all of that available to us….
what a desperate place we find ourselves in, where eternity slips thru our hands as we try to take hold of everything that feels good & entertaining & exciting & urgent at the moment. if only we had the wisdom to know exactly what we wanted our lives to look like the moment we stand before God answering for everything we’ve done in our bodies. if only we had the wisdom to start in heaven and retrace our steps to live only for what would make sense eternally.
who came up with the phrase “he’s so heavenly minded that he’s no earthly good”? what a deception! what an embarrassment that we live as though this were possible, as though we really did have to leave the place of God’s presence to get anything practical done. what an offense to God who inhabits eternity, who fills all heaven and earth, who calls out to the sons of men to walk with him.
consecrate yourself with me today to answer that call now before any more time slips away, to set your passions on things above where Christ is; to be a voice in the wilderness crying out “Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight!” >>
I will answer the call, but not of my own accord. I desire to have the aid of the Lord God Almighty to be consecrated and for him to most clearly speak through me.
“You can’t be any earthly good UNLESS you are heavenly minded.”
amen.
Crazy, I was just listening to an old Ravenhill preaching and he called out that phrase.
“The problem today is we’re too earthly minded we’re of no heavenly use!”
i’m hearing you loud and clear, but for all Solomon’s flailing, he did transcribe the stellar truth we now casually refer to as Ecclesiastes 12:13. that being, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear G-d, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Abba is the Creator & Father, Yeshua the Author, Finisher, Mediator & Brother and Holy Spirit, the great Comforter, Teacher & Consecrator. What more could we need?
only to believe! and out of that, to commune with the Word wholly & daily! to exchange our thoughts and ways, which are cultural, superficial, waste & death, for His, which are fellowship, fullness, peace LOVE & LIFE!
oh yeah, Solomon’s conclusion is beautiful, totally spot on. he just squandered so much of his life getting to that place. and we don’t need to repeat any of that – that’s why his final call is so focused on remembering your Creator in the days of your youth.
i thank God for damage control, but what if we allowed the Spirit of God to move us as the people of God beyond that? i’m really asking God what it’ll take to see a generation of young men & women raised up so full of the Word of God that there is absolutely no derailing them >>
