the day has arrived…1960 goes on sale (pre-orders now, full release on august 4). get right on over to sounds familyre

watch videos of the sessions & read things like this:

An album almost two years in the making. Glen Galaxy’s magnum opus. The culmination of fifteen years of wild-eyed sonic-sculpting. On August 4th, 2009, Soul-Junk’s “1960″ will be unveiled to — or rather, unleashed on — the wide world. With its untamed versification and ragged beauty, it is an album more bombastic than July 4th fireworks, more poetic than Marcel Proust, and its release is just around the corner! Click here to pre-order.

To help prepare the way, Sounds Familyre is kicking off the Soul-Junk Reissue Campaign. The goal of this campaign is to gather ALL the Soul-Junk titles (full albums as well as EPs) under one roof (the Sounds Familyre roof). It’s quite an endeavor and will take some time to complete, but it’s worth striving for! The first of these reissues are “1957″, “1958″, and “1959″, available now at the Sounds Familyre shop or at your favorite digital retailer. “1951″ and “1955″ will be reissued very soon (late August/early September), and the digital versions will also contain several never-before heard bonus tracks, remixed and remastered by Daniel Smith.

And if it’s possible, there’s yet another reason to get excited about these digital reissues: if you order through iTunes, your download will also include a beautiful digital booklet (in PDF format) created especially for the occasion, with original album artwork, credits, and so on masterfully designed by Anita Santiago. Of course, if you are the type of person that prefers to hold a CD in your hands, just click here and add it to your cart.

Finally, keep your eye on the Sounds Familyre Blog. Over the next couple weeks, three new videos will be posted featuring fantastic in-studio footage from the “1960″ recording sessions (the first one is already up). The videos were created by Soul-Junk keys-man Todd Fadel and star Glen Galaxy, Emil Nikolaisen, Daniel Smith, Dan Zimmerman, and others!

magnum opus indeed… i was going to use the exact same words, and then i read them there in the press release… WOW glen, it feels like this is the culmination of so much effort, so much growth, so much travel. Not that it’s an end point, but certainly a flag firmly planted on the long slow accent that is your astounding musical output. This body of work takes the proverbial cake. I hope that many will see and hear!!! Speaking of, is there talk of a tour? I know it’s so hard w/ job, wife, kids… but we’d love to see some JUNK here in Raleigh/Carrboro NC. You have a place to crash!
    much love *m
