now my eye
At the end of everything Job had been through (including chapter after chapter of his friends criticizing him), God appeared to him. After several chapters of God revealing himself personally to Job, Job said something awesome in Job 42.5: “I have heard of you by the hearing of my ear, but now my eye sees you.”
This really spells out how we are to live waking up every day in the presence of God. There is an ever-increasing display of God’s glory and person available to us every single morning. If we are willing to wake up with hearts beating in anticipation of what new thing Father is going to show us about himself, he WILL reveal himself to us in a way that will make everything we’ve experienced of him before seem like something we just heard secondhand.
Scriptures that we’ve read hundreds of times before will suddenly jump off the page. Divine promises that we’ve heard as distant theoretical descriptions of other peoples’ lives will suddenly speak faith right into the heart of where we live. The voice of God will suddenly drown out all the other voices of circumstance and opinion and intimidation and distraction and accusation. The revelation of the love and the power and the person of God will eclipse every other detail of our lives.
Today could easily be the day you’ll be able to say from the heart: “God, up til now I’ve heard of you with my ears, but now…my eye sees you!”
Great stuff.
Also, I briefly glanced at the title, and I thought it said “ow my eye”. ELL OH ELL
