John 9.24-25 Then again they called the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know; one thing I know: I was blind, now I see.
(compare this with Acts 4.14-16 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, Saying, What shall we do to these men? For indeed a notable miracle has been done by them, that is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.)

There is a simple undeniable witness to the work of Jesus, just as there is a simple undeniable witness to his holiness; to which Father sanctified him, and for which he sanctified himself. (And remember Jesus’ pattern of sanctification is our sanctification.) This witness was totally apparent to the man born blind, and somehow completely lost on the religious elite!

The theology of the day had become so twisted that it judged and labeled a man, then out of necessity approved or condemned his actions. Jesus was constantly calling them to depersonalize the entire process, and just examine the pure evidence of the works that came out of his life. The beautiful simplicity of God’s approval of Jesus’ work and life is reflected in the ex-blind man’s quote. He cuts all the ground out from under the religious leaders just by basically saying, “You read it however you want – all I know is that I was blind and now I see.”

What if everyone who called on Jesus today had that same pure tangible assurance? No matter who was trying to convince the new believer they were still flawed, tainted, cursed with some root of iniquity, some soulish or flesh nature…what if all we knew was that once we were blind, but now we see. Once we were enslaved, but now we’re free indeed. Once we were darkness, but now we are light. Once we were dead, but now we’ve been made alive by the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead!

This testimony of radical newness of life is the spiritual DNA of the new man, sealed with the blood of the Lamb. These things may even now be hidden from the wise and learned, but they are clearly revealed and self-evident to those who are willing to receive the Kingdom as a little child.
