next week is dedicated to finishing recording 1960. i’ll get a release date on that fairly soon. then we’ll start tallying the top 10s on feb 14 & start filming the hits. & then comes the party.. like it’s 1960 >>
Question to the junksters:
Are your favorites typically off the first soul-junk record you heard?
Gotham
Droptop Fluoride
Life to False Metal
Sweet to My Soul (White Hot Apostle Mix)
Buzzards
Palmbranches
Soft Adult Contempt
Moonpie Eating
Israel and the Limping Hip
See His Face
And to the question: No, because my first soul-junk record was 1955, and it took a few years for me to discover the rest of the discography.
1. Eyes Externally
2. ILL-M-I
3. 3-PO Soul
…and everything else from 1956. There’s just not a single bad song on that CD.
paul g: the first time i heard soul-junk, i was in a barnes and noble searching thru records and listening to sections of tracks. i came across 1958 and didn’t hesitate to buy the album (cuz it was nothing short of amazing). after i listened to the album for a couple of days i went back and bought 1956. within a week i got my hands on all albums by glen i could find! lol. but to answer your question, i guess i couldn’t say my favs are off the first album i heard (1958 in 2003 i think). i really don’t have favs… i really really really dig ALL albums by soul-junk. if music is playin in the car or house, there is a 90% chance it is either glen or daniel smith.
i’m memorizing the psalms because of 1959.
I’m pumped about this!
If you could do Brougham (sp?) and Peace Peace Peace that would make my day
Call me a fan of the oldies:
1951 - Spirit of God Descend on Us
1951 - Peace Peace Peace
1952 - Eyes of the Spirit
1952 - Zion!
1953 - Poker of the Eye
1953 - Quite Alright Rockers
1954 - I Blame You, Stallion
1954 - Bridesong
1955 - Universal Two-Day City (Floater!!!)
1955 - May My Tounge Be Stuck Up On The Roof
Later!!!
No. Sweet To My Soul was the first SJ song I heard then 1956 was purchased. I heard that song because my friends couldn’t stop singing it and laughing at how cool they thought it was. They were on a road trip and couldn’t stop playing it over and over and sang along each time. Than I bought the album because of their testimony and countenance.
Subsequently I got 1955, The floppy disc release, Scissors and Blue releases, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1953 and 54. I lost 1959 and must replace it. Psalm 18 rules!
Looking forward to 1960….
Paul G- first album i had of their was 1956. 1958 is my favorite though…canonical if you ask me. i think i’ve only truly held fast to their hip hop noise ventures. the weirder the better. 1942 and ‘38 were off the chain too.
iN
just saw the super news! we would love for you to do 1956 - that would be rad

Paul, 1955 was my first CD and I love it the most.
also,
answering question: I discovered 1955 by sifting thru the internet during bible college back in the day -definitely my favourite album - I was so pumped to finally find bible truth put to beats and sounds - peace peace peace 1951 favourite song.
Greetings Soul Junkies! I’m overjoyed to hear that a new record is in the works. I’ve got to say that 1957 is one the dopest records in my collection. I found it (along with like 4 others & bought ‘em all) at Amoeba in Berkley a few years back…only thing is, my copy doesn’t have the same cover art. The one I have is just a bunch of random magazine clippings glued onto some old record sleeve. I do however, have reason to believe it wasn’t just a knock off because there’s a silver Soul Junk sticker that once sealed the record shut. Is this a one-of-a-kind? Anyway…here’s my list in no particular order:
1 Non-Linear
2 Vesuvius
3 Innerspacemen
4 Ungst Func Slag Collision
5 ill-m-i
6 3po Soul
7 Eyes Externally
8 Hogging All the Islands
9 Sea Monsters and Gargoyles
10 The Peacemaker
11 Dry Bones makes the cut too!
Santino,
My 1957 record is also collage on an old record sleeve. The cover art is just for the CD. I think the record collages were done by Glen himself.
ill-m-i
sea monsters & gargoyles
Hogging All the Islands
3po Soul
Black
Sweet to my Soul
3 Fascinating Smells
Horse Posing As Unicorn
Siam Cats
Non Linear
After much deliberation my song list is ready. This exercise almost inspired me to start a SJ cover-band
Poker of the Eye ( Luke 10, Love it
)
Quasars?
Like the sunrise ( we used to sing this one in church )
Cold-Coct the Coroner
All Lids
Spirit of God Descend on us
Spoiler!
Oblong Toggle (Mark 16:15-20)
Puts Wings On Things (Isaiah 43:1-7)
Bridesong
Double-O Javelin (Bonus track?)
It was tough to narrow it down, so many good songs, so much scripture. Thank you Glen! Such a blessing, I pray a double portion for you.
Steve
Glen has done some of the 1957 vinyl covers, if not all!
Paul G: First record bought was 1953 1954 in 2002 by Glen, after a Norwegian festival called DP. Then I only listened to rock, but the later years I’ve learned to love all of the albums. I could point out some weak songs, but thats only a few. I’m actually not so into slo-ro’s style, so I’ll skip those. The rest is insane. I read one person saying that 90 % of what was listened to was soul-junk and Daniel Smith. I guess it’s the same for me (only with soul-junk) in very long periods of time, of and on. Love Danielson also, but it hasn’t had the same major impact on me.
