oracles
Jesus is our model when we look to how new testament teachers are to wait on teaching. He taught as one having authority, and not as a scribe. His motivation was as far as possible from bitter envy and strife masquerading as wisdom. He had compassion on those who came to hear him, and he opened his mouth and taught them.
Jesus’ manner of teaching was incredibly distinctive. His words were very simple, yet extremely powerful. Even when he spoke in parables, he made his point with such purity and penetrating impact that no one could react out of mere intellect. He had received a commandment from the Father what he should say and what he should speak. He spoke as the oracles of God, and his word was confirmed to be Father’s word; because it went forth and healed those that heard it.
There is no doubt the word of exhortation needs to be in effective operation in the church today. Without a vision a people perish. The word of exhortation is the means by which God’s clearly stated vision for his church is held in preeminence and not supplanted by the lesser visions and agendas of men. It is no wonder Paul told the church at Rome they were filled with all knowledge and able to admonish one another, or that he instructed the church at Jerusalem to allow the word of exhortation.
