Ben just told me about your project to sing the whole Bible. I had this great idea to memorize the first 5 verses of each book. Now it seems like kindergarten. But I still want to try it. Man, do I love his word.
I love the story of the Chinese house churches. They were constantly getting the few bibles they owned confiscated, so their solution was to all memorize a chapter a day - so that even if all the bibles were taken they could write it all out from memory.
I tried memorizing whole books (mostly shorter new testament epistles), and it amazed me how much would jump out at me that I never noticed before. It’s so wonderful and crucial to have that appetite for the Word (which is more literally food than we know) stirred up. I remember when days and even weeks would go by when I pretty much ignored the Bible - now if I go 24 hours without really digging in, I feel completely physically anemic. I love being that tangibly dependent on God.. and I know there’s an ever-deepening jones available!
