if the gospel is hidden
There is no reason at this point in history for anyone to be ignorant of the righteousness of God manifested in Christ. Every logistical means of getting across geographic and cultural barriers are available to us - God’s people are the ones who should be so incredibly zealous and united in this zeal to show forth Father’s salvation. The answer to zeal without knowledge is not lessening or neutralizing zeal; it is zeal with knowledge, and the specific knowledge is the knowledge of salvation.
What holds people in their ignorance is not so much our failure to tell people about Jesus. It is our contentment with being one of the world’s great religions, one spirituality among many. It is a complacent willingness to run with a message that needs and receives no supernatural confirmation. It is a willingness to preach the wisdom of man at the expense of the preaching and demonstrating the power of God.
The heart of the gospel we preach must be resurrection. It must be the Word made flesh and dwelling among us, it must be Christ and him crucified, resurrected, exalted and pouring out the Spirit on all flesh; it must be faith from first to last. Man has short-circuited the power of the gospel by equating the word that is near us with a word that is merely convenient; a word that needs only mental assent.
We can afford to put much more on the line.
