armed

Christ’s conquest is like none other in the history of mankind. He came as the promised Seed, actively choosing to die and be buried in order to bear much fruit, rather than to save his own life and abide alone. He declared that no one would take his life from him, but that he had the authority to lay his own life down that he might take it up again.

He literally armed himself with a willing readiness to suffer in his own body in order to see even his enemies broken out of slavery to death. He never once bowed the knee to sin, never once cut a deal with lust or pride, never once made any gesture towards compromise with the power of death.

Jesus rode in triumphantly free of all sin, declaring that the prince of this world (who was about to be decisively routed, spoiled, and publicly and permanently humiliated) was coming, but would find nothing in him. Jesus came holy and acceptable to God, and so established living holy and acceptable to God as the reasonable service of all who would come to him for life. The weaponry of coming ready to suffer in the flesh is finished with sin before sin can even start.
